What is the difference between a wood burning stove and a multi fuel stove?
A wood burning stove is built to take logs only. It has a flat firebox floor and no grate, because wood burns best on a bed of its own ash with the air coming in over the top of the fire. A multi fuel stove has a raised grate and an ashpan so it can also take smokeless fuel and briquettes, which need air from underneath. What wood can I burn in one of these stoves?
Only dry, well seasoned wood. Ireland's solid fuel regulations require wood sold in small quantities to be at or below 25 per cent moisture, and every stove on this page is ECO Design compliant, which assumes clean, dry fuel. Seasoned hardwood, kiln dried logs and wood briquettes are all fine. Never burn unseasoned timber, treated or painted wood, or household waste. Wet wood wastes much of its energy boiling off water, blackens the glass within an hour and lays down tar in your chimney flue.
What styles of wood burning stove do you stock?
Plenty. The Mi-Fire Firepod, Washington and Ovale ranges come as standard freestanding units or with a logstore or pedestal base, which lifts the firebox to a more comfortable viewing height. The Henley Geneva is available with or without a logstore, the Hazelwood is double sided for a room divider or open plan layout, and the Lagos 600 is a cassette stove that beds flush into the chimney breast.
