What is a room heater stove?
A room heater stove is a freestanding stove that sits out on the hearth and heats the room it stands in. It has no back boiler, so all of its output goes into the space around it rather than being shared with your radiators and hot water cylinder. That makes a room heater the simpler and cheaper installation of the two, and the usual choice for a sitting room or kitchen. What size room heater stove do I need?
Measure the room in metres, multiply length by width by height, then divide by 14. A 4m by 4m room with a 2.4m ceiling comes out around 5kW, which is why so many of the stoves here sit at that output. Our range runs from 5kW up to 12kW for larger or open plan spaces. Resist going bigger than you need, because an oversized stove ends up damped down, which dirties the glass and the flue. Send us your measurements and we will check it.
Can I fit a room heater stove if I have no chimney?
Yes. Where there is no existing chimney, a twin wall insulated flue system takes its place, running up the outside of the house or internally through the ceiling and roof. It is more work than lining an existing chimney and the flue components add to the budget, so factor that in early rather than late. We stock twin wall flues in black and silver. If a flue is not practical at all, our electric fires give you the look without the chimney work.
Do room heater stoves come in different colours and finishes?
Most are matt black, but several models are offered in enamel. The Stanley Aoife comes in black or slate enamel, the Tara and Oisin in black, and the Henley Aran in cream or black. Enamel is a glazed finish rather than paint, so it holds its colour and wipes clean, though it costs more and has to be kept away from abrasive cleaners.
