Black Twin Wall Flues FAQs

What are black twin wall flues used for?

Black twin wall flues let you fit a stove in a house with no chimney. The flue has a 316 stainless steel inner skin, a 304 stainless steel outer skin and 25mm of mineral wool insulation between them, so it can run safely through ceilings and out the roof, or out through a wall and up the outside of the house. The black powder coated finish matches your stove pipe and suits modern exteriors. Our range is HETAS approved and CE marked. Prefer a stainless look? See our silver twin wall flues, or our matt black single wall flues for the pipe inside the room.

What size black twin wall flue do I need?

Match the flue's inside diameter to the outlet on your stove, and never go smaller. The 5 inch (130mm) and 6 inch (150mm) sizes suit most wood burning and multi fuel stoves, while the 3 inch (80mm) size is for pellet stoves only. Keep the outside diameter in mind too, as that sets the size of the hole through your ceiling or roof. It is 180mm on the 130mm flue and 200mm on the 150mm flue. Your stove's flue outlet size is listed in its product specifications.

How far should a black twin wall flue be from combustible materials?

Keep at least 60mm between the outside of the flue and anything combustible, such as timber joists or plasterboard. Where the flue passes through a ceiling or floor, fit a fire stop plate to hold that gap and seal the opening. The same rule applies if you box the flue into a false chimney breast for one of our cassette stoves. Always follow the stove and flue installation instructions and building regulations, and if in doubt, ask one of our recommended fitters to design and fit the system.

What parts do I need for a black twin wall flue system?

Most systems start with a bottom cover, which adapts the single wall pipe from your stove to twin wall. From there you add straight lengths in 250mm, 500mm or 1000mm, 45 degree elbows to change direction, and a tee with a drain plug if the flue goes out through a wall. Wall brackets hold external runs in place, a fire stop is needed wherever the flue passes through a ceiling, and a flashing seals it through a tiled, slate or flat roof. A rain cap finishes the top. Clamps come with every length. Not sure what you need? Send us a sketch and we will put together a parts list.
