Stoves - Frequently Asked Questions
What type of stoves are best for an Irish home?
The right stove depends on your fuel source, chimney setup and how much heat you need - but multi-fuel stoves are among the most popular choices in Ireland because they burn both seasoned wood and solid fuel, giving you flexibility as energy costs shift. Under Irish building regulations, any new stove installation must meet the minimum efficiency and emission standards set out in the Clean Air Strategy, so output rating and appliance certification matter as much as style. You can browse our full range of stoves, including room heaters and boiler models, to compare options.
Do I need a hearth under a stove?
Yes - a non-combustible hearth is a building regulation requirement under Irish law for any solid-fuel stove. Its purpose is to protect the floor from radiant heat and falling embers; the minimum dimensions are set by the appliance manufacturer and the relevant Technical Guidance Document. A suitable hearth must also meet the minimum projection in front of and to either side of the stove. Our team in the Drogheda showroom can advise on hearth sizing to suit whichever model you choose.
